Autumnal West German Pottery

on

[Left to right: Possible Carstens, Scheurich,  Scheurich]

There is definitely a change in the air: the nights are drawing in and our garden is becoming covered with leaves of various red, brown and orange shades. If I was any kind of interior decorator, I might start changing my house to reflect the autumn season.

But hold on, what’s this? West German Pottery in autumnal tones? I think we can manage to dot a few of those about:

Scheurich, God knows and Who knows? I would guess Bay for the one on the right, but I can’t seem to find it. I think we’ll probably keep the candle holder in the middle, especially with Halloween on its way.

This one makes me think of a Hindu dancer – it looks like it has lots of arms on either side. Well, to me it does anyway!

The longer these have stood around the house, the more they have grown on me. There’s something about their smoothness, matching colour scheme and shapes that I like.

Aidan is currently listing a few of the pots, so make sure you click the link on the right and have a look… I’ve got to do a shameless plug at some point in this blog!

All of these are gorgeous. The one with the “arms” is especially cool, do you know the manufacturer? Could it be Dümler & Breiden? Anyway, I reckon the ones with the autumnal colours would look great with some branches displayed in them. I’m currently on the hunt for some to stick in my increasing number of floor vases.

Wow Emma! It´s getting better and better. You found like Mark Hill wrote The best and not the rest. greetings from a cold Stockholm

Lotti – Yep, the armed vase is a D&B – I forgot to put that in the post! And the branches idea is a good one. We’re having a Halloween party this year so that’ll be one way to ‘spook’ the house up!
Cinna – Glad you like them so much! It’s pretty cold here at the moment as well; though today it’s done but rain, rain, rain!

Just had a second look–yup, that Scheurich with the bark like glaze looks a lot like mine, except the colours on mine are red and beige. It’s such a weird design, on mine the surface almost looks carved.

Yeah mine’s the same. I wasn’t too keen on it at first, but the longer I’ve had it, the more I like it!
