When I was little, I loved the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker. I had a little book that was an alphabet drawn by her: one fairy for each letter and a little poem to go with it. I adored looking at the pictures and would spend hours copying the pictures of the beautiful little flower fairies, and making up own fairies too.
Corliss is currently in an ongoing ‘communication’ with our very own house fairy… my mum gave her a fairy door, and Corliss has been leaving it letters and little gifts; such as acorn cups to make hats and bowls with, bracelets made out of pipe cleaners, pictures and flowers she’s picked. The fairy, I hate to say, has been very busy and hasn’t sent her many letters in return. Tonight, I finally had a word with the fairy and the kind, but busy, fairy has written her a letter back and left some pictures of what she and her friends have been doing to help out Father Christmas.

It still makes me happy to see these pictures. I’m going to keep an eye out for some of the books, in the hope that I can use the pages to make some prints for the kids’ bedrooms. I have these plans occasionally; still not made any of the pictures I’ve set out to do in the past! New Year’s Resolution perhaps…
